The Family
The Hündehütte family has been growing grapes since 1856, forging a growing vineyard, supporting hundreds of families, providing excellent wines to over a hundred thousand consumers for over 150 years. It’s this legacy that has ensured kind care is constantly given to the vines. Exquisite craftmanship is at the heart of everything we do.

Winery Timeline
December 1855
Found the Property
The deep valley housed an empty field with surprisingly fertile soil. The purchase was completed in 1855 for a whopping $140 USD.
April 1856
Broke Ground
Ground was broken in 1856 where the first vines were planted. The earliest known clones from France, Italy and Israel. The foundation of the estate was laid, which still stands today.
July 1856
Winery Completed
Visitors soon came from all over the countryside, and Dog House Winery was born. The wines made by the first generation of Hündehütte family were stunning. A select few bottles still exist in our Library under lock and key today.
March 1880
Expansion of the Vineyard
Eventually, the winery expanded the vineyard up the hillside, creating tiered landings for variable altitudes. This resulted in a wide new range of varietals that we could nurture.
